Merry Christmas!

December 20th, 2013

Sorry for the gap in our blogs but due to staff illness and Christmas activities it got missed oops! So lets catch up …

Since last time we have been to SPACE and had a fabulous time. We all enjoyed a go on the swing and the slide. The ball pool was also a great hit! We have also been very busy getting ready for Christmas making cards and decorations and also rehearsing for our play. Thank you to all the people who came to watch our production of the “Magical Christmas Jigsaw”. I’m sure you’ll agree that everyone worked very hard and produced an amazing show.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their Christmas cards and presents (the staff will never be thin!). I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Will into Early Years as the teacher from January. Jemma is returning from maternity leave and moving back into class one so Will is moving into Early Years and I (Julie) will be working in all classes in school covering teachers subject coordination time and working on new projects for school. I will still be around and available to chat to if anyone wishes.

On that note Early Years would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and all the best wishes for a healthy and happy 2014.

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term. We hope you all had a great week off. This week we have been celebrating bonfire night by creating some beautiful, glittery firework pictures. We have also started our new topic which is toys. We will be exploring old and new toys and we will be playing lots of games with our friends. Can we take this opportunity to remind you that it is Children in Need day next Friday (15th) and we invite you to join our fund raising by donating £1 to come to school with funny hair! Have a fabulous weekend, the Early Years team.

Half term

October 24th, 2013

Early years have had a busy halft term. As well as doing lots of exploring, we have also made lots of new friends. We have painted, baked, built, dressed up, swam, played outside and been out on a trip! We are now looking forward to the week long holiday, and will return refreshed in November to begin learning our lines and songs for the christmas play!
We would like to wish you all a very safe and enjoyable half term!
See you on 5th november.

We have continued to explore Autumn this week. We have used our conkers and leaves to make some exciting paintings. We placed paper in trays, then rolled conkers in paint, then jiggled the trays. We had fun hearing the conkers roll and were excited to see the patterns we made.

Continuing our creative theme, We enjoyed making chocolate “hedgehogs”.We dipped juicy pears in melted chocolate then sprinkled them with crumbled flake, choccy buttons, and raisins to make their prickles, yummy!

We have also been very active. On Tuesday, we played some games in the hall with Paula as part of the Pink day for Breast Cancer Reasearch. The day raised over £100. Thank you very much!

The weather has been very mixed, but it has not dampened our spirits. We have played outside in the sunshine and also splashed in the rain this week.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in their reply slips for the forthcoming parents evening (Wednesday 23rd November 5pm-7pm). If you want to come and meet the staff, there’s still time to request a time slot between 5-6 pm or 6-7pm.

We hope you have a great weekend.

Autumn fun!

October 10th, 2013

With only two weeks to go before half term, Early Years have been out and about enjoying the crisp sunny weather! On Tuesday we went on the new school minibus to Space in Preston. We enjoyed exploring all the different sensory experiences especially the giant slide….weeeee!!!

We have been out into Kirkham, walking through the park collecting leaves and twigs.  We listened to the wind in the trees, saw a train speeding by and heard the church clock striking.  On the way back to school we called at the weekly market to choose two large pumpkins. These will be used as part of our class sensory experiences.

We had a visit from the fire service too, who came to talk to us about fire safety. They set up a dark room in which we had to pretend to be firefighters and find our way through an obstacle course!

We have also been very creative, making a textured collage of Felix the neuron from CBEEBIES’ Nina and the Neurons. We have enjoyed exploring different materials and sticking them to our picture.

Thank you for all the Autumnal items you collected over the weekend. We will be using these to make prints and different kinds of marks next week.
Next week on Tuesday the whole school is taking part in pink day in aid of Breast Cancer research, so we invite pupils to wear something pink for £1.

A second busy week

September 19th, 2013

Hello again!
We have had another really busy week in Early Years. We have made the most of the rainy weather and played out in our waterproof suits. Water has been a big part of our week, with the children all enjoying swimming. There has been lots of laughter and splashing coming from the pool! The children have been baking, painting, sharing stories and singing favourite songs, especially “if you’re happy and you know it”.
We hope you have fun this weekend finding photos to stick into your ” my family” books.
Have a great weekend
From us all in Early Years.

New starters are already very busy!

September 16th, 2013

Welcome to Early Years’ blog.  This new and exciting project will see staff learning new skills alongside the children.  We hope to give you an insight into our class activities, topics of learning, day trips and news. We would like you to be part of this blog by leaving us comments and feedback.

This school term is still young, but already we have been very busy. We are learning about “ourselves” so we been looking in mirrors and using our hands to paint bright paintings to display in our class. Last week we enjoyed swimming, some of us for the first time! This week we have enjoyed getting very messy, weighing and mixing to make shortbread biscuits which we decorated to look like faces.
